The graphical notation Unified Modeling Language (UML) is merged with the Specification Description Language in Telelogic Tau 3.6, a complete software development and test environment for large-scale telecommunication applications. The new release is said to effectively offer advanced functions that no UML tool can match, including simulation without the need to write code in the implementation language, automatic generation of test cases, and interactive generation of sequence diagrams. The tool also includes comprehensive UML support that reduces the time spent in the early analysis phase, as well as during the target construction and test phases. The SDL2000 standard, which represents the state of the art in real-time programming, also defines a set of translation rules that link UML and SDL. Telelogic Tau 3.6 supports this translation to give UML a solid semantic real-time foundation.
