Stepping in as the industry?s first PCI express to PCI-X expansion systems, the PCIE-PCIX-7S includes a standard height host card, while the PCIE-PCIX-7S-LP includes a low profile card. The host card is a 4x PCI Express card that is hot pluggable. The system is said to be easy to use?since no software is required?and provides 8x better performance than traditional PCI expansion systems. The chassis is a 5U, 19" rack-mount enclosure with seven available expansion slots. A high bandwidth 5-meter, 4x cable connects the host card to the expansion chassis. With this setup, the company says that the full PCI Express bandwidth is available to the chassis? seven slots permitting PCI-X or PCI cards to run at full capacity. Price for either the PCIE-PCIX-7S or PCIE-PCIX-7S-LP is $1,895 including host card and cable. SBS TECHNOLOGIES INC., Albuquerque, NM. (505) 875-0600.
