Version 2.1 of the Eclipse open-source, integrated development environment (IDE) is available as a free download. It includes a number of improvements in the text editor and a new graphical build editor. The debugger now shows threads holding and waiting for locks, plus many user interface enhancements and improved conditional breakpoints. Eclipse is now tightly integrated with the JUnit test system. In other Eclipse news, the Hyades project for automated software quality testing will support the UML 2 Test Profile specification (U2TP), which was submitted to the Object Management Group (OMG) on March 3, 2003.
