In the latest release of the VirSim debug environment, high-performance data compression has been added that is said to produce the industry's smallest history files without a performance penalty. Also, the tool now supports the increasingly popular LINUX operating system.VirSim is a GUI for design verification and is included with Synopsys' VCS simulator (see story above) and is licensed for use with other Verilog simulators. Advanced analysis capabilities, tightly integrated in an intuitive GUI, allow for efficient debugging. The chart shows how VirSim's data compression facilities provide a reduction in file sizes of up to 100X compared to industry-standard VCD files and of 7X to 10X compared to uncompressed files.
