Targeting local-area industrial communications applications, the 900-MHz AC4490-1W transceiver provides an output of 1W and delivers data transmissions up to 115.2 Kb/s over distances to 20 miles line-of-sight. Output power is user programmable from 5 mW to 1W. Measuring 48 mm x 42 mm, the module is said to be the industry's smallest 1W transceiver. It employs a unique protocol (RF232) to manage over-the-air concerns, i.e., interference rejection, error detection, addressing, security, and link verification, and can be used as a direct cable replacement, requiring no special host software. Operating temperature range is –40°C to +80°C, and the module is socket-compatible with 2.4 GHz units for network-wide interchangeability. Price is less than $45 each/10,000.
