Texas Instruments' AC7 DSL chip set runs less than $10 per port and consumes less than 750 mW. Integrated memory helps keep parts count down to 23 per port. The AC7 splits DSLAM functions into a 16-port transceiver and a 2-port analog front end (AFE). The transceiver supports Utopia 2, PCM, high-speed LVDS and packet over Sonet (POS). The AC7 architecture splits the codec functionality between the two chips using only digital links versus the analog links used by the competition. All analog processing is handled by the AFE. The chip set supports the latest DSL standards, including ADSL2, ADSL2+, and READSL (Range Extended ADSL).
