The addition of external memory and accompanying logic to embedded designs is said to be greatly simplified with PSDsoft Express, an EDA tool that, when used with the firm’s PSD microcontroller support chips, automatically generates all required logic equations from input provided by designers using the tool’s point-and-click dialog boxes. With PSDsoft Express, the process for designing the logic required for handling memory decoding, segmentation, paging, chip selects, or pin assignments becomes transparent to the user. And there is no need to write HDL. The tool leads the designer through the entire design process: from microcontroller selection using a menu of MCU architectures and assignment of I/O pins via a dialog box to configuring flash for in-application programming and automatic HDL generation. Capable of operating under Windows 95, 98 and NT operating systems, PSDsoft Express can be downloaded from the firm’s web site free of charge.
