Described as a bus-based temperature control innovation that interfaces with PLCs or human machine interfaces (HMIs) to integrate temperature and machine control, the MLC9000 temperature controller eliminates the need for integrated PID blocks that degrade PLC performance. It also eliminates the need for multiple single-loop panel-mount controllers that allegedly waste panel space and prevent centralized control.
Considered significant, the device interfaces with the HMI either directly or via PLC registers. It communicates directly to the PLC via open buses, including DeviceNet, PROFIBUS, and Modbus, or through a serial port. Other features include a deterministic 100-ms sample time, built-in heater-break alarms, hot-swappable single loops, and a building-block approach to adding additional loops.
