Cable modem gets DOCSIS 2.0 okay. Cable Television Laboratories (www.CableLabs.com) has certified Texas Instruments' DOCSIS 2.0 cable modem. Called waves, the tests ensure modems meet Data Over Cable Service Interface Standard (DOCSIS) 2.0. Dennis Rauschmeyer, director of product marketing for TI's cable unit, said the TI solution mixes chips, open software, and reference designs cable box makers can use to get customized and personalized modems to market quickly and easily. DOCSIS defines how most operators implement Internet access and other data services over standard cable TV networks. Version 2.0 triples the upstream speed of previous DOCSIS specs.
