Casio has decided to extend its use of the eSOL PrKERNELv4 real-time operating system (RTOS) suites in the latest EXILIM digital cameras. Casio selected PrKERNELv4 because of the success the company has had with it in early version of the EXILIM cameras, according to eSOL. PrKERNELv4 offers task and memory management for real-time applications, and serves as the primary foundation within the EXILIM Card EX-S10 and EXILIM Zoom EX-Z80.
“SOL’s PrKERNEL is a compact, highly reliable real-time OS in terms of its features and capabilities,” said Jun Hosoda, product development leader of Casio Computer Co. Ltd. “eSOL’s proven product and technology were the key factors in the continuous deployment. Specifically, with this project, we could reuse our existing software, and this helped us to minimize the cost and development time.”
Both the Card EX-S10, an ultra-thin, state-of-the-art 10.1-megapixel digital camera, and Zoom EX-Z80, an 8.1-megapixel digital camera with high-quality movie capability, feature YouTube Capture Mode and iTunes Compatible Video Format. In addition to the existing face-detection function for automatic face focusing and brightness adjustment, the cameras contain an Auto Shutter function, which automatically records the moment of a smile or the instant when a handshake ceases, using motion blur detection technology.
