Embedded Systems Conference, San Jose, CA. – Announced as the latest member of the SH-Mobile series of application processors for portable multimedia systems, the SH-MobileR2 (SH7723) enables the design of products with multimedia capabilities suitable for personal navigation devices, portable media players, and video and voice over IP terminals. It operates about 1.5 times as fast as the first generation and delivers higher levels of processing performance in encoding and decoding audio and visual data. The device employs an SH-4A CPU core operating at speeds up to 400 MHz and integrates a FPU. At 400 MHz, processing performance is 720 MIPS and FPU performance is 2.8 GFLOPS. Other features include a 64-Kb primary cache memory and a 256-kB secondary cache memory. Peripherals include the VPU5F multi-CODEC video processing function, an IP block. The VPU5F supports H.264/MPEG-4 compression and can perform VGA encoding and decoding at a rate of 30 fps. It also supports MPEG-4 encoding and decoding and VC-1 decoding. Price is $26 each/10,000.
