Touted as a breakthrough technology for the wireless mobile Internet market, the company has announced the success of its first field trial of its flash-Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) system. Tested in the 700 MHz frequency band, the system is said to have demonstrated reliable wireless connectivity for broadband Internet content, such as interactive multimedia applications. Initial development of the technology began three years ago, and was designed from the ground up for mobile broadband access to the Internet and to take advantage of existing IP and packet-switched technology. A larger, wide-scale market trial of the system is said to be scheduled for later this year.
