The Mobyle Application Platform (MAP), a proprietary wireless development platform, now supports enhanced multimedia applications that utilize general packet radio services (GPRS). This addition is said to enable mobile operators using MAP to better leverage their investment, now and in the future, by adding a new layer of wireless services that can be resold to their enterprise and end-user customers. Incorporating GPRS technology, the company expects to develop features such as an always-on connection to the wireless Internet and the ability to wirelessly download virtually any type of document. In addition, the company says that when new handsets and PDAs that are GPRS compatible reach the market, users will be able to enjoy such applications as listening to streaming audio at any time and location on their portable devices.
