In a chip measuring 7 mm x 7 mm x 4.5 mm, the CMOS-based VS6524 VGA camera module is manufactured using the company’s 0.18-µm CMOS imaging process, allowing for the integration of a pixel array with a 1/6" optical format, digital-image processor, and analog system functions. It produces an ITU-R BT.656-4 compliant digital video stream up to 30 fps, while the integrated processor provides pixel-defect correction, lens-shading compensation, sharpness enhancement, gamma correction, demosaicing, downscaling, and color-space conversion. Other features include a dual-element plastic lens with a 50° horizontal field-of-view and a minimum focus distance of 20 cm, power-management functions, a standby current of 10 µA, and 2.4V to 3V operation with the camera interface using a separate 1.8V or 2.8V supply. Samples and evaluation kits are available now. Price for the camera module is $6 each in large quantities. STMICROELECTRONICS INC., Lexington, MA. (781) 861-2650
