A team effort, STMicroelectronics and Infra-Com offer a complete reference design for high-bit-rate wireless audio, tailored for consumer electronic products such as home theater systems, surround-sound and gaming speakers, DTV speakers, and portable accessories. The Drum and Violin designs combine Infra-Com’s receiver side IrGate IC with the digital class D power amplifier and signal processor from ST’s Sound Terminal family. The Drum employs an STA326 digital amp that delivers 2 x 60W of audio power into 8W loads. It provides an uncompressed 24-bit, 48-kHz PCM wireless link and a latency of 150 ms. Amplifier efficiency is up to 92% and SNR is 100 dB. The Violin enlists an STA333ML digital amplifier providing 2 x 20W of power without the need for a heatsink. The Drum and Violin reference designs are available now as the M2C_IrGT801ADR_STA326 and M2C_IrGT801ADR_STA333ML modules, respectively, for evaluation and product development.
