Enabling auto-negotiation up to 1 Gb/s and support for up to 40 Gb/s of traffic, the Niagara 32711-TX server adapter employs Intel’s82599 10GbE controller. The Intel device provides PCI-e 2.0 (5 GT/s) support, 6.2W operation, and intelligent queue support optimized for multi-core processors consisting of 128 transmit and receive queues. It also offers Virtualization Technology for Connectivity, which reduces I/O bottlenecks, boosts throughput, and reduces latency. Adapter features include layer 2 and 3 security including IPSec and LinkSec, Intel I/OAT Acceleration v3.0, VLAN tagging, stripping and packet filtering, FCoE transmit, segmentation and offload, and SNMP and RMON statistic counters. For 10G BASE-T, the 32711-TX uses a SFT9102 10 GBASE-T transceiver from Solarflare Communications. At 4.5W, the SFT9102 is allegedly the lowest-power 10 GBASE-T transceiver on the market at the 40-nanometer silicon process technology node.
