A joint effort between Renesas Electronics, Micrium, and IS2T formulated a software strategy based on the “application platform” approach, leading to the creation of the MicroEJ Java platforms for Renesas’ RX microcontrollers. It will expand product ranges, accelerate the specification process and improve the user experience in markets targeted by RX products, such as smart grid, smart metering, smart appliances, and other Internet of Things (IoT) applications. The IS2T MicroEJ, which involves the entire embedded-software lifecycle from prototyping to development to testing, is powered by a simulated development environment representative of the “target hardware.” The platform works on Micrium’s RTOS µC/OS-III running on Renesas’ RX MCU family. MicroEJ’s scalability allows the same application to be developed on multiple Renesas MCU/MPU devices. IS2T offers an easy-to-use GUI for cost-sensitive MCUs, complementing the RX microcontrollers with the Direct Drive solution for native graphic LCD support.
