Designers looking for compact solutions to networking needs in environments from departmental IT to the factory floor could opt for the fanless PL-80550 desktop platform. WIN Enterprises’ latest appliance features the Atom D2550 processor and choice of either 4 or 6 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) local-area network (LAN) ports with bypass function. The 1.86-GHz processor, which consumes a mere 10 W, comes is available in dual-core design. Both processor options come with an Intel ICH10R 1/O controller. Housed in a compact, rugged aluminum chassis, the PL-80550 includes two USB 2.0 ports and RJ-45 console port plus LED indicators to monitor power and storage activities for local system management, maintenance, and diagnostics. The unit also supports one mini-card socket, and offers an optional onboard Cavium Nitrox Lite CN505 chip to provide hardware-level cryptographic acceleration. Wi-Fi capability is optional.
