What you'll learn:

  • How nine synchronized OV9281 sensors enable multi-angle and multispectral capture.
  • Why FPGA preprocessing and a single MIPI CSI-2 output simplify embedded-vision integration.
  • Where compact multi-sensor arrays fit into industrial, robotic, and AI imaging systems.

Vision Components’ VC MIPI Multiview Cam, introduced at the recent embedded world North America conference, is a nine-sensor MIPI CSI-2 camera module designed for light-field and multispectral imaging. The system incorporates nine OmniVision OV9281 sensors on a rigid carrier board. An onboard FPGA combines all image data into a single MIPI CSI-2 output, simplifying system architecture and integration.

Each sensor in the array can be fitted with a different optical filter or positioned at a slightly offset angle, allowing users to capture multispectral or multi-angle image sets simultaneously. This suits it for applications such as 3D reconstruction, industrial inspection, robotics, and AI training, where parallel viewpoints or spectral data improve analysis accuracy.

The Multiview Cam is part of Vision Components' VC MIPI ecosystem, which includes modular cameras, FPGA preprocessing, and standardized MIPI interfaces. According to the company, by integrating multiple sensors into a single compact unit, the platform helps reduce system cost and complexity while expanding the field of embedded-vision design.
