Defined as revolutionary, the Application Specific Modular Block (ASMBL) architecture promises rapid, cost-effective deployment of multiple domain-specific FPGA platforms with a blend of features. Essentially a modular framework of silicon subsystems, the architecture employs a unique development methodology that yields domain-specific devices packing more than one-billion transistors. And by employing advanced flip-chip packaging technology, the architecture eliminates geometric layout constraints associated with traditional chip design, such as dependencies between I/O count and fabric array size. It also addresses the increasing requirements for on-chip power and ground distribution by allowing power and ground to be placed anywhere on the chip. According to the company, this will significantly accelerate development time and increase reliability.
