Serial EEPROMs Run on SPI Bus

Sept. 6, 2005
Two serial EEPROMs are SPI-bus based memory chips that permit easy interfacing with microcontrollers. The 25AA256 and 25LC256 are 256-Kb chips that operate at speeds up to 10 MHz. The 25AA256 operates over a 1.8V to 5.5V supply range while the 25LC256

Two serial EEPROMs are SPI-bus based memory chips that permit easy interfacing with microcontrollers. The 25AA256 and 25LC256 are 256-Kb chips that operate at speeds up to 10 MHz. The 25AA256 operates over a 1.8V to 5.5V supply range while the 25LC256 has a 2.5V to 5.5V range. Both are available in industrial temperature range (-40°C to +85°C) and extended temperature range (-40°C to +125°C) versions. Data retention capability is rated at 200 years, and endurance is specified at 1 million erase/write cycles. The EEPROMs are available in a low-profile (0.9 mm) DFN package, but also can be supplied in TSSOP, PDIP and SOIC packaging. The memories are supported by the SEEVAL 32 Serial EEPROM Designer’s Kit, which allows fast development, integration and debug times for applications. Also available is a Total Endurance software package for modeling and designing EEPROM applications. Both memory chips are priced at $1.63 each/10, 000. MICROCHIP TECHNOLOGY INC., Chandler, AZ.
