Operating at low power and boasting a small chip size of about 130 square millimeters, this new family of single bit power cell, 256-Mbyte NAND flash EEPROM devices is targeted for use in flash memory cards, as well as in applications such as solid-state disk drives and digital cameras. Made using 0.25-micron process technology and shallow trench isolation, the chips were developed to meet demands for greater storage capacity. For example, a music recorder and player built to operate on 64 Mbytes of memory can provide the capacity to store about one hour of CD-quality music by employing two of the memory chips. The devices are available in two packaging options. The TC58256FT is offered in TSOP packaging, while the TC58256DC is housed in 32-Mbyte SmartMedia packaging. Both devices operate with a 3.3V supply.
