Offered as the next generation of the company's application specific memory (ASM), 16 Mb RAM, the MB82D01171A features enhanced power requirements to consumption as low as 70 µA. The device is designed for next-generation mobile phone applications such as Internet access, music distribution, e-mail, video post cards, information and location-based services.
Based on the Fast Cycle RAM (FCRAM) architecture, the new ASM devices feature an asynchronous SRAM-type interface and refresh-free operation with low power for long battery life. It is claimed that this makes it easy to upgrade memory without the need for significant changes in system architecture. Three models are currently available with 90-ns cycle times and a power-down current of 10 µA.
The models MB82D01171A-90, -90L and -90LL feature standby currents of 200, 100 and 70 µA, respectively, from -25°C to +85°C. Other features include 2.3 to 2.7V and 2.7 to 3.1V operation with 16-bit I/O organization. Housed in a 48-pin FBGA package, prices begin at $30 per unit.
