Seeking deployment in portable products, the SST55VD020 ATA flash-disk controller and SST55LC200 CompactFlash card controller feature an advanced ECC engine for managing current and future high-density NAND flash requirements. Their embedded firmware allows for updates before, during, and after manufacturing, eliminating the need to re-design or re-qualify new controllers. With Ultra-DMA host and intelligent NAND flash interfaces, the controllers operate at rates up to 30 MB/s for both sustained write and read operations and support up to eight chip enables. The SST55VD020 can support up to 64 chip-enables with external decoding logic and drivers. The device comes in an 85-ball, 6 mm x 6 mm x 0.85 mm VFBGA package, while both controllers are available in 100-pin TQFPs. Additionally, the SST55VD020 controller offers security features that allow up to four user-configurable protection zones to be read/write, read-only, or hidden. It can also access data in protected zones via a password-protected command. Prices for either device start at $3.12 each/100,000. SILICON STORAGE TECHNOLOGY INC., Sunnyvale, CA. (888) 778-2447.
