Western Digital SiliconDrive N1x SATA solid state drive (SSD) is available in capacities up to 128 Gbytes (Fig. 1). The 2.5-in drive uses the more reliable and longer lasting single-level cell (SLC) flash instead of the higher density multiple-level cell (MLC) flash used in Western Digital's SiliconEdge Blue SSDs. SiliconEdge Blue SSDs are available in capacities up to 256 Gbytes.

The N1x is ideal for emmbedded applications requiring high capacity and high performance. The drive delivers read speeds up to 240 Mbytes/s and write transfer rates up to 140 Mbyte/s. Western Digital's Speed Assurance technology is designed to provide consistent read/write performance. The SiliconDrive uses a 3 Gbit/s SATA interface.

The SiliconDrive N1x supports Native Command Queuing (NCQ) and the flash drive TRIM command supported by Windows 7. The drive handles operating temperatures from 0° C to 70° C and can operate at altitudes up to 80,000 feet. It meets MIL-STD-810F requirements for shock and vibration. It has a rated lifepsan of 701.4 Gbytes/day.
