SIP Module Supports Time-Sensitive Networking

May 20, 2025
Octavo Systems' OSD62x-PM incorporates a Texas Instruments AM62x SoC.

Octavo Systems' OSD62x-PM system-in-package (SiP) family is based on Texas Instruments' AM62x processors (see figure). The SiP also includes DDR4 memory and passive components in a 9- × 14-mm BGA package.

The AM62x packs up to four, 1.4-GHz Arm Cortex-A53 cores along with an Arm Cortex-M4F to handle real-time chores. The 3D GPU can deliver up to 2048 × 1080 pixels at 60 frames/s. It supports OpenGL ES 3.1 and Vulkan 1.2. The video output features OLDI/LVDS (two 4-lane interfaces) and a 24-bit RGB parallel port. Also in the mix are MIPI CSI 1.3 Compliant + MIPI-DPHY 1.2 ports.

Connectivity includes a 10/100/1000 Ethernet switch with time-sensitive networking (TSN) support. There are two USB 2.0, nine UART, three CAN-FD, five SPI, six I2C, and three McASP ports. Among other ports are an eMMC, two SDIOs, and a GPMC.

I earned a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Masters in Computer Science from Rutgers University. I still do a bit of programming using everything from C and C++ to Rust and Ada/SPARK. I do a bit of PHP programming for Drupal websites. I have posted a few Drupal modules.

I still get a hand on software and electronic hardware. Some of this can be found on our Kit Close-Up video series. You can also see me on many of our TechXchange Talk videos. I am interested in a range of projects from robotics to artificial intelligence.
