The HV853 high-voltage electro-luminescent (EL) lamp driver requires no external components when the external clock frequency is used for the lamp frequency. Groomed for applications that employ small lamps, the device relies on a patented charge pump scheme to eliminate the need for an external inductor, diode, and capacitor. It drives lamps measuring up to 1.5 square inches with capacitive values to 5.3 nF. Peak-to-peak output voltage is 160V from an input of 3.2V to 5V. The HV853 is available in MSOP-8 (HV853MG-G) and DFN-8 (HV853K7-G) packages, both of which are green and RoHS compliant. Pricing is $1.14 and $1.16 each/1,000, respectively.
