Desktop video editing, digital still cameras, set-top boxes, and digital TVs are among the many applications for six new cores for the Xilinx's Virtex and Spartan FPGA families. The cores are from CAST Inc., a partner in Xilinx's AllianceCORE group, and include: three cores for image compression and decompression; three wavelet-based image and video codec cores; and digital signal processing circuitry. The cores are available for licensing from CAST (www.cast-inc.com), with details on Xilinx's multi-vendor common license for FPGA-based IP provided at www.xilinx.com/signonce.
