Developed for use with CDMA cellular phones, the PrairieComm PCI9501 Earth baseband IC integrates an ARM7TDMI microcontroller and OAK DSP cores on a single chip together with all of the accelerator logic, firmware and a rake receiver to provide complete Layer 1 functionality. The chip was developed with Mitel Semiconductor's Planet chipset to form an antenna-to-microphone solution for CDMA cellular phones. The IC can perform all the Layer 1 functions required by the CDMA cellular protocol. Additionally, a complete Layer II and Layer III call processing protocol stack, the PCI9500 SEA, is fully integrated with the PCI9501 IC. Software call processing modules are also provided to support SMS and data services.
