Hailed as the fastest pulse width modulator (PWM) for power supplies, the MCP1630 specifies a current sense-to-output delay of 12 ns. The device allows users to add precision control, digital communication, and programmability for initial settings or do an on-the-fly adjustment or calibration. It integrates a comparator with an error amplifier and a PWM latch to perform the analog power-supply PWM function and supports all switch-mode power supply topologies. Other features include a typical operating current of 2.8 mA, output rise and fall times of 5.9 ns and 6.2 ns, respectively, peak-current limit of ±5%, peak-current mode operation to 1 MHz, under-voltage lockout, plus output short-circuit and over-temperature protection. Available in an eight-pin MSOP, price is $0.98 each/1,000. MICROCHIP TECHNOLOGY INC., Chandler, AZ. (888) 628-6247.
