Via an integrated I2C interface, the MAX8738 EEPROM-programmable, TFT VCOM calibrator promises to simplify the labor-intensive VCOM-adjustment process and replaces mechanical potentiometers. The serial interface employs the existing I2C bus on the LCD; therefore, no additional panel connector pins are required. The device attaches to an external voltage divider and sinks a programmable current to set the VCOM voltage level. Its 7-bit d/a converter controls the sink current and is ratiometric relative to AVDD. Available in an 8-pin microMAX package, prices start at $1.75 each/1,000.
