The FAN5350 is reportedly the first 3-MHz/600-mA dc/dc synchronous buck converter specifying a 16-µA quiescent current and 20-mV transient response. Set to power DSP core and application processors plus I/O interfaces, the device employs the company’s proprietary architecture, which claims responsibility for the stated quiescent current and transient-response performance. Package options include both 1 mm x 1.37 mm WLCSP and 3 mm x 3 mm MLPs. Delivering a 1.82V output voltage, the converter exhibits an efficiency of over 90% in both PFM and PWM modes. Additionally, the FAN5350 is lead free and meets or exceeds requirements of the joint IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020C and complies with European Union regulations. Prices are $0.84 (WLCSP) and $0.80 (MLP) each/1,000. FAIRCHILD SEMICONDUCTOR, San Jose, CA. (800) 341-0392.
