Complete Voice-Enabled Cable Solution Drives Digital Services

A complete voice-enabled cable solution aims to give cable operators the ability to provide bundled services across all market segments such as primary line telephony for residential gateways, secondary line telephony for voice-enabled cable modems, ad multiline offerings for multi-dwelling units. The solution builds upon the company's first generation of voice-enabled cable modem offerings. It features the TNETC4320 communications processor, the TNETC4042 integrated DOCSIS (Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification) PHY and MAC, together with software products from Telogy Software. This trio of technologies boast of delivering the industry's highest voice quality and lowest power consumption.
Integrating the TMS320C54x series DSPs with a 125 MIPS RISC CPU, the TNETC4320's dual-core DSP-based subsystem delivers 266 MIPS. The device also includes a PCI interface, an eight-port USB controller, two 10/100 Ethernet MIIs, a security engine, and a glueless broadband interface to latch to the TNETC4042. The combination of devices allows users to support all residential distribution standards including Bluetooth, IEEE 802.11b, Ethernet, IEEE1394 and HPNA.
The integrated MAC/PHY is an enhanced version of the Cable Television Laboratories-certified TNETC4040 and is fully compliant with DOCSIS 1.1 requirements. The DOCSIS standard demands a higher quality of service for voice and the company has developed a software stack that complies with its rigid functionality requirements. It has also developed, thoroughly tested and integrated a total software solutions to enable OEMs to get to market quickly with toll-quality voice products.
