The AD9549, a dual-input network clock generator, claims to set a new standard for performance to maximize network uptime and increase system stability and reliability. Employing a unique architecture based on the company's proprietary direct digital synthesis technology, the device promotes a more stable holdover, providing users additional time to restore the clock reference in the event of a failure. If an input clock fails, the chip continues to hold the output frequency until the input failure is recovered. This holdover functionality reportedly improves stability by as much as two orders of magnitude, in the order of -0.37 ppm vs. -30 ppm. The clock also allows users to set loop bandwidth to optimize reference-A-to-reference-B switching time. The AD9549, sampling now, will be available in production quantities in June. Available in a 64-lead LFCSP, price is $10.95 each/10,000. ANALOG DEVICES INC., Norwood, MA. (800) 262-5643.
