With three cores running at 1 GHz each, the TMS320TCI6487 processor allows basestation manufacturers to extend their existing designs while expanding into new markets that require small form factors and a scaleable, flexible solution. The 3-GHz wireless infrastructure baseband processor not only boosts GSM-based systems, it is also well-suited for TD-SCDMA and WiMAX applications. In the GSM arena, the TCI6487 supports up to 10 EDGE-enabled carriers with one chip while providing enhanced capabilities like interference cancellation and better reception for high-data-rate applications. As a software-upgradeable solution, the TCI6487 reduces overall infrastructure costs, which enables service providers to deploy baseband technology in new emerging markets. The device is also optimized for infrastructure design for TD-SCDMA, China’s air interface. As a 3-GHz “baseband on a chip,” the TCI6487 supports three carriers and 69 users. In addition, as a WiMAX solution the chip, which is manufactured in a 65-nm process, meets the unique needs of today’s emerging OFDMA requirements and tomorrow’s LTE demands. The TCI6487 is currently sampling with targeted customers. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC., Dallas, TX. (800) 336-5236.
