Korean Telco To Deploy Ikanos Fusiv Processor

A major Korean telecommunication service provider will use Ikanos Communications' Fusiv Vx155 processor in its first trial deployment of residential gateways. The Fusiv Vx155 powers Mercury Corp.’s PHY-agnostic residential gateway, which is designed for use with VDSL2-, PON- and AON-based access networks for distributing triple play services in the home. Mercury Corp. is the only gateway vendor to pass the Korean telco’s benchmark testing to reach field trial deployment. The PHY-agnostic residential gateway enables the Korean telco to deploy fiber to the building (FTTB), fiber to the home (FTTH) and fiber to the remote (FTTR) architectures for triple play applications. The Fusiv Vx155 delivers wirespeed performance of 100 Mbps with customized Quality of Service (QoS) and firewall/security capabilities for distributing rich-media services inside the home. The chip has 1.4 GHz of total processing power and offers 300,000 packets per second of routing performance with network address translation (NAT) and firewall enabled software. Its on-chip digital signal processor (DSP)/voice engine enables support of up to four channels of full-chain voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) for residential and small office/home office (SOHO) applications. "The Vx155 chip provides unparalleled integration of voice, signal and network protocol processing, while outperforming other competing solutions in terms of price and performance for triple play gateways," Jong-Hyeop Kim, director of research and design at Mercury Corp., said in a statement.
