Prolonged battery life is promised for DSP-based and portable products using members of four new families of low-dropout voltage regulators (LDOs). At just 2 µs (0-500 mA), the LDOs are said to offer the industry’s fastest transient response time, allowing designers to improve system reliability while maintaining a well-regulated power supply. Devices in the TPS775xx/6xx/7xx/8xx LDO families fall into 500- and 750-mA output groups, with each family supporting fixed output voltages of from 1.5V to 5V. The LDOs are also offered with either an integrated power-good or reset option. And the 500-mA TPS775xx LDOs combine an ultra-low quiescent current (85 µA typ.) with an ultra-low dropout spec (169 mV).
