Based on a parallel processing architecture, the eXtreme Processor is touted as the industry's most powerful 32-bit processor. Capable of sustainable peak performance in excess of 50 GOPS, the first member of the series, the XPU128, claims to deliver performance that is up to 50 times greater than conventional sequential processors and 20 times higher than DSPs. This reconfigurable parallel data flow processor sends high-speed data streams through an array of processing elements at full speed. The processor performs calculations during each clock cycle and the results flow to the next processing element. This process continues until all calculations specified in the algorithm have been completed and all of the processed data has flowed out of the device. Other features include a 3.2 GB/s external memory bandwidth, 12.8 GB/s internal memory bandwidth, 6.4 GB/s sustained I/O bandwidth, and a 0.4 TB/s internal data bandwidth.
