Based on a new streamlined architecture, the LM970x family of imaging processors promise to eliminate inadequate real-time image processing performance, slow click-to-click time, and poor quality streaming video associated with many digital imaging products. The family is designed for use with the company's CMOS image sensors and target both consumer and industrial applications. The processors employ a hardwired, configurable pipeline that takes on the computing-intensive workload from the embedded CR16 and ARM7 processor. This architecture is said to provide fast click-to-click time while allowing real-time image processing at a low system cost. When paired with a LM9648 image sensor, the LM9704 processor supports frame rates up to 8 fps with a 1.3 Mpixel resolution while consuming 95 mW of power. The LM9702 teams up with the LM9638 SXGA, LM9647, LM9628, LM9637, LM9618, LM9627 or LM9617 VGA sensors or the LM9630 and LM9702 lower-resolution sensors. This processor supports rates up to 30 fps in full VGA resolution and consumes 90mW of power. Targeting consumer, industrial, and automotive markets, the LM9701 combines a streamlined architecture with low power consumption and supports resolutions up to 8 Mpixels. The LM9704, LM9702, and LM9701 are priced at $9.10, $6.50, and $7.80, respectively, each/10,000. NATIONAL SEMICONDUCTOR CORP., Santa Clara, CA. (800) 272-9959.
