Targeting rewritable DVD drives, a chipset consisting of the µPD63630 DVD signal processor with ATAPI interface and µPC3330 analog signal processor supports 8x recording speeds in DVD-R and DVD+R formats. The chipset also provides 2x DVD-RAM read capability, allowing it to read all DVD recording formats including DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/+RW, and DVD-RAM. The µPD63630 also features optimized clock frequencies in each block. According to the company, the µPC3330's circuit configuration is optimized to reduce amplifier current, which results in a total power consumption for the pair to be approximately 30% lower than comparable devices. Available in QFPs, engineering samples are priced at $35 each. For more details, call NEC ELECTRONICS AMERICA INC., Santa Clara, CA. (408) 588-6000.
