A non-PCI Ethernet controller, the LAN9118 addresses the demand to connect multiple PCs with printers and digital media in home networking applications. The controller is designed for video streaming such as found in cable, HDTV, digital video recorders, home gateways, printers and other home equipment. It supports high data rates with little or no packet loss because its large memory buffers contain fine granularity, fast bus-cycle times and built-in flow-control support. The Wake-on-LAN feature allows a network to wake up consumer electronics devices from a sleep state. The flow-control support prevents the receive memory from overflowing. The controller interfaces to any embedded processor and requires its own chip select. Operating systems that the controller works. SMSC, Hauppauge, NY. (631) 435-6626.
