A secondary-side controller for 300W and above ac-to-dc power supplies for communications applications, the ADM1041 is a digitally controlled IC that eliminates the need for manual calibration and adjustment on the secondary side. Due to high integration, it can potentially replace hundreds of discrete components (up to 70% of a power supply’s total components). The reduction in component count increases the mean-time between failure (MTBF) of a system, improving reliability in continuously operating communication systems such as network servers and routers. On-chip features include current sharing, which provides support for N + 1 power supplies, share-bus sense and control, voltage- and current-sense, and digital control with an on-chip EEPROM. Programming the EEPROM eliminates the need for manual calibration of external trim pots. This is accomplished via an SMBus serial port, which also allows communications with a microprocessor or microcontroller. The device comes in a 24-pin QSOP. Price is $3.95 each/10,000.
