With an eye on energy conservation, the STP16CPS05 emerges as the first LED driver to include automatic power-saving features. The device allows individual ICs to go into a shutdown mode when no active inputs are detected, resulting in power savings without external intervention. Integrated features include a clock and data re-synchronization function, which is useful when the devices are connected in cascade. Four package types are available, each of which operates in temperatures ranging from -40ºC to +125ºC. The device works with power-supply voltages from 3.3V to 5V. Output current is programmable from 5 mA to 80 mA. Price for the STP16CPS05 is $0.80 each/100,000. STMICROELECTRONICS, Lexington, MA. (888) 787-3550.
