Addressing the demand for large-size LCD TVs, the STD8420C and STD8420A column drivers employ National Semiconductor's point-to-point differential signaling technology to simplify the LCD intra-panel connections and to reduce the total number of column-driver signals required. The STD8420C features 414/420 outputs, PPDS-interface compatibility, support for independent digital gamma control of each RGB color, support for dot and n-line inversion drive schemes, and 1,024 gray levels per output. The STD8420A offers all the features of the STD8420C with the exception of output gray levels, which are 256 steps. With samples shipping now, pricing for the ICs is in the range of $3 to $4 each.
