Poised for use in car-navigation systems and other in-vehicle information units, the SH7775 SoC integrates a 32-bit processor running at speeds up to 600 MHz and achieves performance levels as high as 1 GIPS and up to 4.2 GFLOPS. The SuperH device also packs a GPS baseband processing function and a graphics engine optimized for map drawing and 3D images. A set of on-chip peripherals covers essential functions for car navigation systems and similar applications. These include ATAPI, USB v2.0 host/function, and CAN in-vehicle LAN interfaces. Others include a remote control interface and timers. Additionally, the SoC employs a unified memory architecture that allows memory sharing between different peripherals. There are two external buses: a 32-bit dedicated bus for connections to DDR2-SDRAM and a 32-bit extension bus for connections to flash memory or SRAM. Available in a 560-pin BGA, single-unit price is $70. RENESAS TECHNOLOGY AMERICA INC., San Jose, CA. (408) 382-7407.
