Said to provide the highest levels of security, integration, and performance for next-generation point-of-sale systems, the single-chip Zatara series 32-bit ARM application specific standard product (ASSP) is both PCI PED and EMV level 1 compliant. According to the company, the device is a fully integrated system on a chip ASSP that offers four advantages over conventional two-chip solutions that employ a general processor and a secondary security co-processor. These include the high levels of security and intrusion protection, lower overall system cost, a simple design that achieves better performance in a smaller footprint, and quicker time-to-market. Features include: an ARM 9 core; a security subsystem; secure boot ROM; battery-backed security island; NIST 800-22-compliant random number generator; FIPS-140-2 compliant SHA-1 hash generator; 64 KB of zero wait-state SRAM; 4 KB of secure SRAM; magnetic card reader; SmartCard controllers; modem, monochrome LCD controller; 76 GPIOs and pin muxing; DMA, SDRAM, and interrupt controllers; and power management functions.
