PWM ICs Ratchet Up The Current

Targeting the fractional horsepower DC motor drive market, the Apex Precision Power SA306-IHZ and SA57-IHZ embark as the industry's highest-current PWM ICs, delivering up to 5A of continuous current and 8A in A-Grade versions. Peak current is 17A. Driving three-phase brushless DC motors, or brush DC motors in the less-than-9V to 60V supply range, the ICs suit motor control circuits in industrial applications.Additionally, the SA306-IHZ and SA57-IHZ deliver cycle-by-cycle current limit, which provides the ability to control motor current in real time for each motor phase. For digital interfacing, the SA306-IHZ and SA57-IHZ promise a seamless interface to either a MCU or DSP. The top side and bottom side output FETs in the drivers are individually controllable via direct signals from the processor. This includes current sensing for each phase and each current path appears as an individual input to the ADC of the processor.
