On-chip Ethernet and CAN networking interfaces and 512 KB of embedded flash are expected to help the MCF5282 32-bit MCU make inroads into the food service equipment, vending machine, security system, exercise equipment, and industrial controller markets. Applications in all of these areas are seen benefiting from the included software for networking functions. Representing the first MCU based on the 32-bit ColdFire architecture, the MCF5282 also features 64 KB of SRAM, an eight-channel, 10-bit queued a/d converter, four 32-bit timers with DMA capability, eight 16-bit timers, compare and pulse width modulation, three UARTs with DMA capability, and an I2C bus controller. The software package includes an RTOS and a network protocol stack supporting IP, UDP, TCP, ARP, HTTP, and more. In a 256-ball mold array process BGA package, price is about $17 each in quantity.
