Introduced as the industry's first 32-bit ARM7-based microcontroller with CAN and LIN gateway functionality, the SJA2020 promises to reduce component counts and centralize communications for in-vehicle networks systems by replacing several eight-bit MCUs. By offering both CAN and LIN nodes on a single chip, the device allows applications to communicate across different in-vehicle, serial-bus systems. The core CPU operates at speeds up to 60 MHz. The device provides users with 256 KB of embedded flash memory and support for up to six CAN channels and four LIN masters, said to enable the highest level of flexibility in terms of implementation and customization of the gateway. Samples are available now in 144-pin packages with production scheduled for Q4 2004. ROYAL PHILIPS ELECTRONICS, San Jose, CA. (408) 617-4700.
