For one- and multi-phase metering topologies, the 16-MHz MSP430F47x4 microcontrollers integrate up to four16-bit sigma delta a/d converters, a 32 x 32-bit hardware multiplier, 160-segment LCD driver with contrast control, up to 60 KB of flash memory, and a real-time clock. This level of integration forecasts a 5-to-1 reduction in system components. The devices specify a standby power consumption as low as 1.5 µA and feature several low-power modes that allow the meter to sleep with almost no power drain between readings. The MSP430F47x4 series MCUs will be available for sampling in June. Volume pricing starts at $7.50 each/1,000. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC., Dallas, TX. (800) 477-8924.
